The use of plant resistance to manage potato pests and diseases

Host resistance is the most cost effective and environmentally benign way to control diseases and pests. For some diseases, resistance is either complete or non-existent.  With other diseases, and for pests, resistance varies in its expression and the level of control varies accordingly.  In addition to resistance, there is also the phenomenon of tolerance, which is the ability to endure infection by disease or pest attack without showing severe disease or pest symptoms or substantial reduction in yield or quality.

The review, which was published in 2007, describes the types of resistance, reviews the information on resistance to viruses, bacterial and fungal pathogens and pests of potatoes and describes the use of variety resistance in integrated pest management (IPM).
