Irrigation scheduling of substrate-grown raspberry as a tool for improving cane management

Summary

Excessive vegetative growth of raspberries substantially increases the labour required for tying and cutting canes and fruit picking. Using low cost sensors, this project will define irrigation requirements to optimise irrigation scheduling reducing vegetative vigour whilst maintaining yield and quality. This project will deliver labour savings to growers, improve water use efficiency, reduce diffuse pollution and help growers comply with current and future legislation.
