This preliminary review found a number of potential alternatives to the use of formaldehyde in hot-water treatment tanks, including use of some biocides, amendment of current HWT temperature regimes, incorporating pre-soaking and post warming stages or use of auxiliary devices.
The aim of this project was to examine possible alternatives to the use of formaldehyde in HWT for the control of stem nematodes and basal rot and to make recommendations as to future research and development that may be required to identify a suitable substitute.
