A review of the provision of UK horticultural R&D
Summary
The report represents a full review of the current opportunities for funding horticultural research and development across the UK. Consideration of all current funding streams, research contractor capability, and the changing picture of strategic planning for horticulture in the future are covered.
Recommendations for improving the current structure are provided, which for HDC, eventually resulted in the incorporation of the company into the AHDB family of levy funded sectors, and also of the delivery of funding to train future horticultural scientists in core skills such as; entomology, plant pathology, weed management etc., through the fellowship and bursary routes.
